*PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) is a general term for organic compounds in which carbon and fluorine are bonded.
They repel water and oil and have excellent resistance to heat and dirt, so they have been widely used in water-repellent sprays, waterproofed clothing, and household products.
Since they are hardly broken down in nature, chemical substances called PFAS have been detected in rivers, groundwater, tap water, and even human blood, raising health concerns.
